Is there any way to get a musty smell out of a dress I haven worn and would love to return

I recently bought a new dress to wear to a Korte Avondjurken party my parents were having in Canada. When it came to the day of the party, the weather had turned quite warm and I ended up wearing something lighter. Since the dress is really dressier than I normally wear and it is warm already here in NC, I don't really have any need of the dress and would like to return it but it was hanging in a musty closet in my parents' house and now the dress has a musty smell. I won't return it if it still smells - but does anyone know a way to get rid of the smell properly without washing or dry cleaning it? It still has the tags on.
